Gian Carlo Menotti - A Composer's Life in Two Worlds. Menotti was America's favorite operatic composer. The creator of the popular "Amahl and the Night Visitors" which is widely performed at Christmastime all across the world, Menotti was the winner of two Pulitzer prizes. Today he is virtually forgotten. Documentary director Jay Fedigan interviewed Menotti in Spoleto, Italy during the Spoleto Festival. Menotti shares stories about the beginnings of the Festival and about "Amahl and the Night Visitors". His birthday celebration makes a great finale for the video.
