Synopsis
"Ay Ayeng" is based on the story "Maestra Ester" written by Abdo Noviza and a screenplay by Lica Lazaro and Ed Palmos. Ayeng (Heart Evangelista) is an aspiring teacher who was forced to stop her studies when the natives supporting her studies became victims of military rule and scrutiny. Sensing that she could no longer
pursue her studies, she went back to the village where she was from. To her surprise, the military barracks were set up around her village. Ayeng heard word
from Umay (Marie Isabel Lopez) that Saddek (Jao Mapa), Ayeng's childhood boyfriend was a victim of the military rule and had short assurance that he was still alive.
Ayeng with her little knowledge in education, tried to help the kids in the village on how to read and count by using flowers, green leaves, dried sticks, and the dry
soil that served as her blackboard under the shade of trees. While doing her task, the military men found it detrimental. Their hardships were witnessed and documented by her childhood friend Karen (Sheena Joy), a photojournalist who left the village many years ago. Conflict arises with the presence of Ayeng and Karen, which makes the soldiers uneasy. Sgt. Gallo (John Arcillia) takes action in order to keep the fears among the villagers. This inspiring story of two friends grants a second chance for the both of them to reach their dreams.
