And check out her MySpace page: www.myspace.com/roslehtinenfor congress The Miami Herald recommends Ileana Ros-Lehtinen The Miami Herald recommends Republican Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is challenged by Democrat David ''Big Dave'' Patlak, a 51-year-old retired U.S. Coast Guard officer. Rep. Ros-Lehtinen, 54, has represented this district for 17 years. She's in line to chair the House International Relations Committee, a powerful post, if the GOP retains its majority. She strongly supports Israel, wants a free Cuba and promotes sensible immigration policies. She provides strong constituent service. For U.S. House District 18, The Miami Herald recommends ILEANA ROS-LEHTINEN. Key West Citizen newspaper endorses Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen We have disagreed with Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen on her stance in favor of the Cuban embargo, her support of the war in Iraq and her cozying up to President Bush. But, although the Keys were added to her district a few years back, she has never neglected us. When people in the Keys have needed personal help, she has been there. When there are issues that are dear to our hearts, such as the Florida Keys Marathon Airport, hurricane relief and wind insurance rates, she has joined the battle. The Cuba native was first elected to Congress in a special election at the death of Claude Pepper. She has since been re-elected eight times as congresswoman, representing the 18th District. We are glad that Democrat Dave "Big Dave" Patlak, formerly of Chicago, chose to oppose Ros-Lehtinen, because we foresaw that his candidacy would open up some discussion between them. Unfortunately, that has not happened to the degree we had hoped. However, there is no doubt in our minds who would be the better member of Congress. Ros-Lehtinen has the track record. We endorse Ileana Ros-Lehtinen to continue as U. S. congresswoman from Florida's 18th District. — The Citizen Keynoter endorses Ros-Lehtinen: Ros-Lehtinen merits Keys voters' support U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen faces Democrat David "Big Dave" Patlak, a retired U.S. Coast Guard officer, on the Nov. 7 ballot. Patlak, who has joined with other vets in protesting the ongoing war in Iraq, uses the campaign to help draw attention to the cause. In March, he participated in an anti-war rally that placed hundreds of cardboard tombstones in downtown Miami. Ros-Lehtinen, who has represented the 18th Congressional District for 17 years, does not shy away from support of President Bush and the war in Iraq. At the same time, she has focused mostly on serving constituents in South Florida. With redistricting, she began to represent Monroe County in 2002 and has proven diligent about mastering the Keys' political landscape. She joined Democratic colleagues opposing offshore drilling in Florida even though the GOP hierarchy pushed the changes as part of a national energy policy. Ros-Lehtinen has tried to get federal wastewater funding released after years of promises but little money. Her latest good efforts on behalf of the Keys include pressing the Transportation Security Administration to provide contract screeners for both Key West International and the Florida Keys Marathon airports. For service to her constituents, we enthusiastically endorse Ros-Lehtinen for the District 18 seat
